5 Killed As Herdsmen From Nigeria Attack Cameroonian Soldiers

By Olaiya Afolabi

Gunmen from Nigeria have killed at least five Cameroonian soldiers and injured several others in Bakinjaw, a village on Cameroon’s border with Nigeria.

This incident was confirmed by a local member of parliament and a traditional leader in Cameron.

Moreover, this attack is part of a broader pattern of territorial aggression in the area.

Aka Martin Tyoga, the MP for Akwaya in southwestern Cameroon, reported that the assault took place early on Friday.

During this time, hundreds of armed Fulani herdsmen crossed over from Taraba state in Nigeria, targeting a military post in a coordinated strike.

Tyoga emphasized that the attack was likely retaliation, as Cameroonian soldiers had killed several herdsmen the day before.

This cycle of violence highlights the ongoing tensions between the two groups, exacerbating the already precarious security situation in the region.

Additionally, Agwa Linus, the traditional ruler of Bakinjaw, lamented the destruction caused by the attackers, revealing that they also burned down his home.

He expressed his deep concern, stating, “This is not the first time they are attacking—it’s very unfortunate.”

His words reflect the growing fear and frustration among local communities facing repeated assaults.
