Dr Nkem Okeke, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Anambra, has congratulated the new governor, Prof Charles Soludo, urging him to be pragmatic in his style of leadership.
He said it is only a hard-headed leader with a listening ear to his lieutenants and associates that would achieve a leadership legacy for upcoming leaders to look up to.
Dr. Okeke, addressing a press conference at his country home, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area, on Friday, maintained that only a seasoned leader would be able to draw the line between sycophancy and truth or genuine reports from the people around him for optimal service delivery.
He posited that there must be a line limit between family members, friends, relatives, and associates in leadership, egg heads need to be engaged no matter where they come from because leadership is not about a settlement.
Nkem Okeke expressed delight at the governor’s commissioner nominees, urging him also to have listening ears.
The former Deputy Governor advised Soludo to pick up ideals from former Governor Obiano’s 2014 security template and build on it to handle insecurity issues, adding that the 2014 strategy worked.
Dr. Okeke further stressed the need to identify the true causes of the security challenges and tackle them from the root diplomatically and advocated re-orientation of people’s mindset to shun violence and destruction of public property built with taxpayers’ money at the slightest provocation, which most times lead to avoidable loss of lives.
He also urged Soludo to enlighten the public that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu issues can only be solved through dialogue, pointing out that
Locking up businesses, and schools, as well as the destruction of government facilities and the killing of one’s brothers, are not the trademark of the Igbo race and cannot ameliorate the situation.
Okeke said he owes gratitude to his former boss, Obiano, who gave him the opportunity to serve the state in various capacities, and also to Senator Victor Umeh for recommending me.
The former deputy governor asserted that APC, the party in the center, has touched the lives of all Geo-political zones such as The Niger Bridge in the South East, urging the people to align with the party as the 2023 General election is fast approaching.
