Anambra State Lunches Technology To Eradicate Quackery In Healthcare
In a major development aimed at improving healthcare delivery, the Anambra State Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, has launched the State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Unit along with its advanced e-platform. This initiative is designed to facilitate real-time registration, renewal, and regulation of health facilities and licenses, improving data collection and enabling better decision-making and prompt interventions.
Speaking at the launch event in Awka, the state capital, Hon. Tony Muobike, Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Health, emphasized the importance of this initiative in realizing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for quality healthcare. Muobike highlighted the legislature’s quick action in passing the bill that supports this initiative and urged healthcare professionals to adhere strictly to the new regulations to avoid legal issues and enhance service delivery. He also raised concerns about a recent alarming discovery: an SS3 dropout performing surgeries and operating a hospital in Nigeria, stressing the need for citizens to be cautious about the hospitals they visit.
Dr. Afam Obidike, the State Commissioner for Health, explained that this initiative aims to eliminate quackery and enhance healthcare access, particularly in rural areas.He noted that 45% of health facilities in the state are currently unregistered and emphasized that the new platform will provide much-needed transparency and accountability.
Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Managing Director of the State ICT Agency, thanked Governor Soludo for leveraging technology to address healthcare challenges and called on healthcare practitioners and residents to actively use the system to ensure data integrity and the authenticity of healthcare services.
In his remarks, Dr. Mohammed Bonnos from the WHO commended Anambra State for this significant milestone, which aligns with the objectives of the National Health Policy. He noted that this regulatory advancement sets a benchmark for other states and contributes to the socio-economic development of Nigeria by ensuring accountability and improved service delivery in the health sector.
