- FRSC orders operatives to cover the election to ensure effective collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force
The Anambra State Government has assured all persons in the state that the November 6, 2021, governorship election will be free and fair and that robust arrangements have been made to secure the life and asset of every person before, during and after the election.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the government said that there are enough security forces who are well equipped and motivated to provide security in every part of the state throughout day and night.
It also stated that the November 6 election will, be as peaceful, free, fair and transparent as previous elections in recent years in the State.
The state government called on all registered voters in Anambra State to come out and cast their votes. The government also assured citizens that all votes will count in this election, as in recent elections while emphasizing that n candidate or political party can write any election result as the days of manipulated election results are over in the state.
Meanwhile, the resolve of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) meeting on Tuesday 26th October 2021 has been made available to the public.
The meeting was a review of preparations for the Anambra State Governorship Election which will take place on Saturday 6th November 2021.
Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in a press release said
that Section 45 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) requires political parties participating in elections to submit the names and addresses of their Polling Agents, accompanied by two passport photographs and sample signatures of each Polling Agent to the Commission at least 14 days before the date fixed for the election. The commission reminded political parties that the last date for the submission of such list for the Anambra Governorship election was 21st October 2021.
Also in line with the Commission’s avowed commitment to deepen the use of technology in elections, a dedicated portal was designed for political parties to upload the names and other details of their Polling Agents for Polling Units and all the three levels of collation (Registration Areas/Wards, Local Government Areas and State collation).
It also remarked that a detailed breakdown of the submissions by political parties has been uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms for public information.
The Commission also said that 81, 778 duly registered PVCs have been printed and will be delivered to the office in Anambra State on Thursday 28th October 2021.
It also stated that the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State and his staff shall work out the most efficient means of ensuring that the voters concerned collect their PVCs in earnest.
The Commission also used the opportunity to reassure the people of Anambra State of its determination to proceed with the conduct of the election and appealed to all the critical stakeholders and citizens in the state to cooperate with the Commission for a successful exercise.
Also, as part of preparations towards ensuring a smooth conduct of the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial elections scheduled by the electoral umpire to hold on Saturday, November 6, 2021, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi has ordered operatives of the Corps deployed to cover the election to ensure effective collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies in the enforcement of restrictions on vehicular movement.
In a statement by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, the Corps Operatives deployed to cover the election have equally been mandated to clear obstructions from the roads, carry out rescue operations in case of emergencies, and maintain orderliness in polling booths.
To ensure that the Corps plays effective role in the elections, the Corps Marshal has directed the deployment of adequate number of personnel of the Corps and Vehicles including tow trucks, ambulances to strengthen enforcement of restrictions during the entire process of the election.
He warned the personnel deployed to play active role in the democratic exercise to exhibit the highest sense of professionalism, ingenuity, and avoid any temptation that could lead to abuse of the rights of electorates.
While reading out the marching order to the personnel, the Corps Marshal wished Ndi Anambra a peaceful, free and fair elections.
