Anambra Assembly Warns Against Extortion As ANTRA Applauds Gov Soludo’s Payment Reforms

Following a firm recent resolution passed by Anambra State House of Assembly in response to the petition filed by the Anambra Tricycle Riders’ Association (ANTRA) against the persistent issue of multiple taxation and extortion by individuals posing as government agents, the association has pledged total support for Governor Soludo

The resolution followed a detailed review by the House Committee on Public Petitions, which looked into the complaints presented by ANTRA regarding activities of illegal revenue collectors across the state.

The tricycle operators had appealed to the legislature to intervene, citing harassment, intimidation, and financial burden imposed by touts who claim to be acting on behalf of the government.

In its resolution, the House declared that the state government does not recognize any form of touting, therefore, any person or group collecting levies in the name of the government without proper authorization is acting unlawfully.

It directed the immediate intervention of the Anti-Touting Squad to flush out all unauthorized agents and extortionists operating within the tricycle transport system, particularly in Onitsha and other urban centres.

Following the resolution, ANTRA Chairman, Comrade Chidozie Okafor, expressed appreciation to the State Assembly for what he described as “rescue mission” for tricycle operators in the state and praised the lawmakers for their responsiveness and alignment with the plight of the masses.

Comrade Okafor also reiterated the association’s support for Governor Soludo’s administration, describing the governor’s payment system as fair and acceptable.

He urged all members to comply promptly with government-approved payments, noting that the funds are being channeled into vital infrastructure projects.
