The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bar Chijioke Ojukwu, has felicitated with Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the people of the state as it marks 35 years of creation.
While commending the on-going efforts by the state government to reposition the state, he reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry to ensuring sustainable planning and a greener Anambra.
The Commissioner conveyed his felicitation in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, August 28 in Awka.
“Anambra State marked its 35th anniversary with a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible urban development.
He described the government focus on environmental sustainability as a reflection of stakeholders yearnings for proactive measures to protecting the environment.
According to him, the initiative reinforces the critical connection between environmental protection, sustainable physical planning and the future development of Anambra’s communities.
“As Anambra continues to experience rapid urbanisation, the Ministry emphasises the need for development to take place within a properly planned and environmentally responsible framework.
“Sustainable urban growth requires not only the provision of infrastructure but also the protection of green spaces, responsible land use, proper drainage systems and strict adherence to planning regulations” he added
Ojukwu urged Ndi Anambra to take Governor Soludo’s lamentations on environmental degradation seriously, noting that human activities significantly contribute to flooding and gully erosion.
The Commissioner therefore reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the administration’s environmental agenda through proper land-use planning, development control, enforcement of planning standards and the promotion of sustainable urban development.
He, then, hailed the state government for the tree-planting exercise, describing it as a commitment to building communities where development and environmental sustainability work hand in hand.
