The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba has disagreed with a judgement by the Anambra State high Court on Tuesday (January 25) ordering the removal of roadblocks on Anambra roads, saying such a move will serve as invitation to criminals to take over the roads.

Speaking to the Press on the issue, Adinuba, noting that the roadblocks are part of security measures at this time of increased insecurity, stated that the state government had yet to get a copy of the judgment and might appeal the ruling after consultations with the Attorney General.

Responding to inquiries as well, the Police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga said the command was unaware of the judgment stating that the roadblocks had only served as observation in areas where there had been complaints of crime.

Recall that Justice Ike Ogu of the Anambra State High Court had on Tuesday delivered a judgment in the case of “Francis Moneke vs Anambra State Government and Others’ challenging the continued presence of roadblocks, stating that there was no legal justification for erecting roadblocks on major roads in the state.

Justice Ogu had subsequently held that such blockades be removed to allow free movement of persons and vehicles.
