Demolishes Illegal Structures In Onitsha

Anambra State Government has again warned Land speculators against indiscriminate encroachment into government lands across the State.

The warning was issued when a special government enforcement team demolished illegal buildings and parameter fencing erected on over twenty plots of land near Governor’s lodge, Onitsha, which had been mapped out as judges’ quarters.

The team visited the Judges’  Quarters, Onitsha, where faceless individuals erected structures without recourse to the provisions of the law.

Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr Chike Maduekwe, maintained that the law is clear that before developers embark on any project, approval must be sought from the government.

He described the structures as illegal which was why the board removed them and stopped further development on the land in question.

Mr Maduekwe who observed that the visit and clamp down on such illegal developers was the fourth on the same location, emphasized that the team paid the visit on the express directive of the Governor.

He said the government had since allocated the land for the building of an official residence for judges, pointing out that the place was again marked two weeks ago for demolition but the developer continued to develop, without recourse to the directive.

Mr Maduekwe who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy further hinted that the government had demanded from the developer papers relating to his claim over the land, but got none, and informed that security agencies had been placed on alert to arrest and prosecute anyone encroaching into the land.
