Anambra Govt Intervenes In Crisis Tearing Uga in Aguata LGA
Promises To Restore Peace In The Town.
By Nneka AnoliefoAnambra State Government has waded into the crisis rocking Uga town in Aguata Council Area.
The government promised to ensure that peace returns to the town.
The State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, made the promise when he held reconciliatory meeting with stakeholders from the town in his office at the Government House, Awka.
Addressing the Stakeholders from Oka, Umuoru, Awarasi and Umueze Communities in Uga, the Commissioner revealed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration had reconciled over thirty crises- ridden Communities since he assumed office.
He assured them that government will do everything possible to restore lasting peace and stability in the town.
The Commissioner told them that government will study their constitution, together with other documents they presented before him and take appropriate decisions in no distance time, urging them to accept whatever resolution the government will arrive at for peace to reign.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne, who promised to setup a committee to look into their documents and submissions, asserted that government would be decisive in resolving their differences
The President General of Uga Town Union, Chief Dr Anthony Ekesiobi, appealed to the State government to look into the critical issues which originated the crisis and proffer Solutions.
He explained that the Constitution is supreme, while the Former President General, chief Sir James Umezuluora, recounted how he brought development to the town and also built the Oye market during his regime, insisting on the gentle man agreement made in 2010.
On his part, Honourable Ikechukwu Umeh from Awarasi community, appealed to the State Government to deploy the town’s constitution in resolving the differences between the current and former President-General, which borders on tenure elongation stressing that there is nothing like gentleman’s agreement in Uga town.
The Chairman of Oka community in Uga, urged government to study the documents and submissions tendered, with a view to taking decisions that will be acceptable to all the parties.
In their separate speeches,
the Secretary General of Uga improvement Union, Barrister Emmanuel Ezemenari from Umueze Community, Chief Simeon Egwuekwe, Chief Emma Onyeharam and Engr Pastor Ben Unaka among others, affirmed that the tenure of the serving Executives commenced in August, 2018, and will expire in August, this year.
They urged the government to conduct a town union election that will usher in new president general and other Executive members, adhering to the constitution of the town.
