The Director, Environment, Health Pollution and Control (EHPC), Anambra State, Mrs Edith Ike, has paid a visit to Nkpipka Layout, Ogbaru Local Government Area, following a petition by the community against a waste management firm in the area.
The land owners in the area had, in a petition to the state government, accused the firm, P. Chima and Associates of negligence and failure to carryout stipulated duties assigned to the company.
Chief Jerome Eze, who spoke on behalf of the landlords commended the government representative for promptly responding to their calls as it would help to address the matter.
Chief Eze further insisted that it would be better for the landlords to manage the waste generated in the community themselves instead of engaging contractor as doing so without getting the job done, would amount to waste of scarce resources.
Also speaking, one of the stakeholders in the community, Mr Jeff Eze, noted that State Government has consistently reiterated the need for clean environment, stating that the community petitioned the contractor because he absconded from the project.
Responding, the EHPC Director, Mrs Edith Ike, informed that, the Ministry of Environment has already assigned contractors to each area concerning refuse evacuation.
She observed that ensuring clean and healthy environment is a collective responsibility, pointed out that she had noted the environmental problems facing the people including erosion menace and promised to look into the issues.
