Anambra Govt, Wades Into Nteje Igweship Tussle.

Anambra State Government has charged stakeholders in Nteje town in Oyi Council Area to seek ways of amicably, resolving the Igweship crisis that has so much divided their community.
The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony Collins Nwabunwanne gave the charge when some stakeholders of the community visited him in his office at government house, Awka, to proffer solution on how to restore the right person as the traditional ruler of Nteje.
The who promised to help in restoring lasting peace in the community, took time to listen to the various parties involved in the crisis.
He made them to understand that since the matter is in the Supreme court, there was need for them to look critically on what the laws and constitutions of Igweship of Nteje stipulated and come up with solutions on how to move forward.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne reminded them that they are brothers, hence the need for them to embrace peace for posterity sake as war does nobody any good.
The commissioner assured them that it’s the right of Ndi Nteje to choose who rules them, stressing that the present administration will not impose traditional rulers on any Community
He pointed out that the choice of the people must be obeyed, hence the more need for them to go home and look at the issues on ground and come up with feedbacks.
In their different speeches, some of the stakeholders including Chief Sir Paul Nnedi, Chief Benjamin Moufuanya, Hon. Williams Igboanua, Chief jideofor Okuh,Chief Paulinus Obichukwu , Chief Benneth Chinweze, Barrister Amasiam and Chief Chris Omokwu among others went down memory lane on how the Igwe tussle started in the community.
They explained that they have three quarters in Nteje and that their traditional stool is rotational from Ezi Nteje, which is the first, Ikenga is the quarter of late Igwe Roland Odegbo, whose his Igweship was under controversy, while Ifite Nteje is another quarter.
They further explained that the past administration gave Igwe Odegbo Certificate of Recognition inspite of the controversy.
Going further, they said that after Igwe Odegbo’s demise, Ikenga and Ifite quarters are dragging the Igweship Right, which brought misunderstanding that led to state government’s intervention.
Responding, the President General of Nteje town, Dr Nnamdi Ilodiuba, promised to take his people home to find lasting Solution to the tussle, and as well, return with feedback.
He commended Governor Soludo, Commissioner Nwabunwanne and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr Mrs Pauline Nwandu, for their efforts in ensuring peace and stability in Nteje Community.
