Anambra State is hosting a 10-day referee and coaching course aimed at enhancing volleyball development in the region. Organized by the Anambra State Sports Development Commission and the Anambra State Volleyball Association, the training began last week at the Archbishop A.K. Obieduna Retreat Center in Awka.

Currently in its seventh day, the program has attracted participants from various states across Nigeria, although South East representation has been disappointing. Chief Jerry Onyemachi, the South East volleyball coordinator, expressed hope that this initiative will strengthen volleyball’s presence in the region.

The course features international referees and includes training in beach volleyball. As it nears completion, participants are encouraged to focus on their passion for the sport and consider officiating opportunities at upcoming championships. The initiative reflects Anambra’s commitment to nurturing future sports talents and improving local engagement in athletics.
