Anambra Pharmaceutical Hub, Oba, Set for 2025 – SA On Medicals, Pharmaceuticals
The Anambra State government has announced that the Anambra Pharmaceutical distribution hub in Oba, Idemili South, will be commissioned in 2025.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Medicals and Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Godwin Nnadozie, made this known during an interaction with journalists in his office in Awka, on Wednesday.
Dr. Nnadozie disclosed that significant construction work is ongoing at the market, adding that by December 2024, billboards will be mounted at all entry points to raise public awareness. He emphasized that despite the homogeneous resistance from some traders, the governor is determined to fulfill his promise.
“In the next few weeks, all entry and exit points in the state will feature giant billboards. The resistance to relocating to the pharmaceutical hub is merely propaganda, which the government is effectively managing. Many traders are now beginning to support the initiative,” he stated.
He acknowledged that the resistance stems from various factions and interests within the Ogbo Ogwu Market.
He further noted that the state cannot afford to maintain a Bridgehead Drugs Market that is unkempt, while claiming it is acceptable.
He described the Ogbo Ogwu Market as a hub for counterfeit and quackery practices, asserting that it is time to end such practices in the state.
Dr. Nnadozie mentioned that the Onitsha Bridge Market distributes drugs across various African countries and highlighted the need for dignified practices in the industry.
He added that the Anambra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Park is part of Governor Soludo’s vision to create medium and high-tech industrial parks in Anambra State.
Nnadozie said “this compact, modern pharmaceutical industrial estate will house companies of varying capacities, service providers, and support service companies, all sharing workstations and infrastructure”.
