Anambra Police, SWAN To Collaborate On Sports Competitions For Community Engagement
In a bid to strengthen ties with the public, the Anambra State Police Command is set to collaborate with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, to organize sports competitions involving market communities and key stakeholders.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, unveiled this initiative on March 17, 2025, while receiving SWAN members at his office in Awka. He emphasized that the partnership aims to foster trust, promote social cohesion, and enhance communication between law enforcement and the public through the unifying power of sports.
According to CP Orutugu, the initiative will not only create an engaging and positive atmosphere but also highlight the role of sports in bridging gaps between the police and the communities they serve.
In response, the Chairman of SWAN Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Chimezie Ananso, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for his warm reception and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to working closely with the police to bring the initiative to life. The Command and SWAN are currently reviewing the proposal to finalize participant selection and competition themes.
This move aligns with CP Orutugu’s broader vision of community policing and stakeholder engagement as a strategy to curb violent crimes and enhance public safety across Anambra State.
