Anambra State Assembly Tasks Govt Agencies On Due Process In Award Of Contracts

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Urban Development has charged government agencies to follow due process in award of contract to encourage transparency.

The Committee made the call when it embarked on oversight at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex in Awka.

While speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu emphasized that the exercise was designed to guide the Ministry in all their activities so that they will always work in accordance with the law.

The Lawmaker made it clear that it was not designed to witch-hunt anybody, stressing that government agencies should work with the Anambra State House of Assembly when the need arises for the benefit of the state.

The committee also looked into the contract documents, evaluation documents and contract certificate under the supervision of the Ministry and described them as very satisfactory.

It however revealed that it will visit all the housing estates and other projects under construction to ascertain if what is on paper is commensurate with what is in the site.

On his part, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Mike Okonkwo noted that the meeting has helped them improve on their processes and commended the Anambra State House of Assembly for living up to expectations.
