Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Professor Vincent Okpala, has drawn the attention of the residents to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic already wrecking havoc across the world and in Nigeria.
In view of this, the Commissioner urged the general public to join hands with the government in preventing the spread of the deadly coronavirus by adhering to stipulated preventive measures.
He noted that the rapid spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria, pointing out that Anambra state has recorded over eighty new cases in addition to the three hundred and thirty-seven cases already reported.
The Commissioner attributed the rise to the new variant of COVID-19 which, he noted, spreads faster coupled with the influx of movement during the Christmas and New Year celebrations
Dr, Okpala who stated that Anambra state recorded the lowest case in Nigeria during the first wave due to the prompt response of the state government and massive compliance by the public, called on Ndi-Anambra to help the state achieve same feat.
He advised health workers to treat every case of malaria as COVID-19, until test proves otherwise, adding that most COVID-19 Patients at the early stage, showed symptoms of Malaria only to test positive to COVID-19.
Dr. Okpala further enjoined the citizens to take their health seriously as well as help contain the spread of the virus.
