Anambra State Dethrones Three Traditional Rulers, Reinstates Five

Anambra State government, on Friday, dethroned 3 traditional rulers of various communities in the state.

According to a statement signed by Greg Obi, the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs,
The monarchs, whose certificate of recognition were withdrawn include; Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia, Njikoka LGA, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle in Anambra West LGA and Igwe G. B. C Mbakwe of Abacha, Idemili North LGA.
The monarchs were consequently directed to submit their certificates of recognition to the Secretary of the local government of their communities within a month of the announcement.

According to media reports, the 3 Monarchs were among the 11 traditional rulers earlier suspended by the state government for allegedly travelling to Abuja with a businessman, without obtaining permission.

Conversely, 5 of the 12 traditional rulers had their the suspensions lifted.
Those lifted from suspension include:
Igwe Simon Ikechukwu Chidubem of Umumbo, Igwe A.N Onwuneme of Ikenga, Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo of Alor, Igwe Chukwuma Bob Vincent Orji of Ezinifite and Igwe S.O Uche of Ezira.

Also 3 Monarchs; Igwe Kelly N. Nkeli of Igbariam, Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Peter. A. Uyanwa of Ukwulu were said to be subject to future review as may be necessary, however their one year suspension continues in the interim.

In reaction , the traditional ruler of Nawfia, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo, whose certificate was purportedly withdrawn, said the case was in Court with an injunction.
He said he had not been informed about such development, as he remained the traditional ruler of Nawfia.
