Anambra State Equips Local Govt Depertment Heads with Digital Tools to Propel Data-Driven Governance

In a strategic move towards bolstering data-driven governance, the Heads of Budget, Planning, Research, and Statistics (BPRS) across Anambra’s 21 Local Government Areas have been equipped with brand new laptops. This initiative resonates with Governor Soludo’s overarching vision to enhance the state’s workforce capabilities through the integration of digital tools.

The presentation of those laptops was the culmination of a comprehensive one-day training session, during which BPRS departmental heads were enlightened on the effective utilization of technology to streamline data sourcing and processing. The event, aptly themed” “Empowering Data-Driven Governance Through Technology,” was a collaborative effort between the State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs and the Anambra State ICT Agency. The event took place at the JAAC Conference Room, Government House, Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

Earlier, the heads Budget planning Research and statistics (BPRS) had undergone training in Abuja on generating data for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. During this session, they were advised to embrace digital work tools, as the forthcoming uploading of data from various Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the state would be conducted digitally.

During the presentation of the laptops, the Anambra Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, acknowledged the significance of this empowerment, He attributed it to Governor Soludo’s dedication to digitizing the state’s workforce and his vision to propel Anambra into the ranks of tech-driven states.

According to Tony, Today marks a groundbreaking moment for Anambra State as workers are finally being equipped with essential tools for their roles. This day holds immense significance for both me and the entire ministry. Recognizing the pivotal importance of data, we are now embracing a new era where data collection and transmission will no longer follow the conventional analog methods.

Collins Nwabunwanne expressed gratitude towards the governor for his transformative policies aimed at elevating the state’s civil service. He encouraged government officials to leverage the newly acquired tools for enhanced effectiveness and productivity.

He also announced the ministry’s efforts to support LGAs’ staff in obtaining laptops for their professional development, which will be facilitated through an accessible payment scheme. He further mentioned the governor’s approval to furnish LGAs with furniture, underscoring the administration’s commitment to advancing the local government system.

The Managing Director of the Anambra ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, commended the BPRS departmental heads and reiterated Governor Soludo’s overarching vision to infuse technology across all sectors. Agbata emphasized the importance of maximizing data collection, in alignment with the recommendations of the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission.

The Chairman Anambra State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Bar Vincent Ezeaka, lauded the emphasis on data collection through digital work tools, highlighting its pivotal role in governance.

The Head department of Budget Planning, Research, and Statistics in Onitsha North, Okafor Chijioke, and his counterpart in Nnewi North, Uche Ogbonna, expressed profound appreciation for the training and the provision of laptops. They affirmed their belief that these tools would catalyze positive changes in their productivity levels.

This ambitious effort to equip Anambra’s local government heads with digital tools underscores the state’s commitment to harnessing technology’s potential for improved governance and overall progress.
