A philanthropist, Mr Ikenna Okafor, has been commended for refurbishing the Akwaeze Community High School building, Anaocha Local Government Area.
The donor also provided state-of-the-arts’ science laboratory and e-library to the school.
Government Willie Obiano made the commendation during the inauguration ceremony of the education facilities.
The governor represented by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, said that the donations were in line with the ‘Adopt-A-School’ policy recently introduced by the present administration in the State.
He pointed out that Mr Okafor’s kind gesture provided a conducive learning environment for students of the school to perform better in their academic activities.
The governor, however, tasked the beneficiaries to leverage on the donation to excel in their external examinations, urging other philanthropists and good spirited Ndi Anambra to emulate the gesture as government could not do it alone.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, in a homily during the Mass to mark the event, also thanked the donor for using his wealth to serve God and humanity.
Bishop Ezeokafor affirmed that benefactor had complimented the state government’s effort in providing conducive learning atmosphere for students in the state.
Other people at the event rained encomiums on the benefactor, saying that the facilities would help to take the students of the school to greater heights.
Commenting he philanthropist, Mr Okafor, said he was inspired to use his foundation, established in 2014 to provide public-oriented facilities in health and education sectors of the state, adding that education was one of the key sectors that require much investment for human capital development.
He further revealed his plans to build school hostels; employ a librarian and an assistant in the school, so that CHS, Akwaeze, would flourish.
Donation of five cartons of books to the school by Anambra State Government added glamour to the event.
