Anambra State Government has restated commitment towards ensuring that the girl child is adequately protected, nurtured, and empowered to attain her full potential.
The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mrs Sally Mbanefo, stated this when she received the 43rd winner of Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, Miss Beauty Takura, from Taraba state, and her entourage, who paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Awka.
The Commissioner told them that Anambra state is doing a lot on girl child education and innovation, in view of the importance it attaches to the development of the child and in realisation of the contribution of women in nation building.
Dr. Mbanefo pledged the support of her ministry to the girls club to assist her realise the objective.
Earlier, Miss Takura, described Anambra as a leading light in the nation, which has very high rate of young girls in school.
She spoke of her pet project, “Girls Lead Club”, which she said is a platform where young girls are mentored and assisted to continue their education and end early marriage.
She revealed that her club visited Community Secondary school, Omor in Ayamelum Council Area of Anambra State, on Sunday, 11th October, 2020 where over 200 young girls were mentored and assisted.
