Anambra state government says it will soon publicize the exact amount transporters should be paying as taxes and levies as a way of putting to an end fake and illegal revenue collection.
The Commissioner for Transport Mr. Afam Mbanefo made this known while playing host to members of Semi Truck Drivers Welfare Association who called on him in his office at Jerome Udorji secretariat, Awka.
The group comprising executive members of the Association drawn from all parts of the state were led on the visit by their National Chairman, Chief Anthony Oguejiofor.
Receiving the group, Mr. Mbanefo said the State government was aware of all the challenges facing drivers in the state and has set machineries in motion to fight them once and for all.
Mr. Mbanefo explained that the first mandate given to him by Governor Willie Obiano was to ensure sanity on state roads, unite all unions and rectify differences among them and also fight touting to a stop.
He said that he is happy that he has the cooperation of all the unions, adding that soon, his Ministry would launch operation decongest Anambra Task Force which he said has started road decongestion in some parts of Onitsha and environs.
The Commissioner called on the group to join hands with his Ministry as they will soon start clamping down on those touts faking as revenue collectors with fake receipts.
On his part, the leader of the group Chief Oguejiofor said they came to welcome the Commissioner as their father, and to complain to him their plight in the hands of fake revenue collectors.
