Following the mandate of the governor of the state Chief Willie Obiano to grant access to quality and affordable healthcare to every resident of Anambra State, the launching of the Mobile Health Insurance platform has become the completion of the loop, signifying the effort of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) in delivering the mandate.
Speaking at the official launch of the Mobile Health Insurance Platform, which was held virtually, the Executive secretary of the agency, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, said the aim of making it easy for anyone in Anambra to enrol into the scheme without connectivity to the internet as long as they have a mobile phone has become a reality. He said this will revolutionize the State Health Insurance business in Nigeria, starting from Anambra state.
He said that with the support of the World Health Organization and funding from the European Union, ASHIA has continued to blaze the trail and have scored another first in citizen-centred service delivery.
He said that with the support of WHO and EU, ASHIA has developed a USSD code that will make registration and access to health insurance easy, especially for rural dwellers. He gave the unique code as 10701#, which can be used by all network providers in Nigeria.
He said that with the USSD code, one can comfortably register and pay health insurance premiums in the state using vouchers that can be bought from any ASHIA accredited provider in the locality where they reside. He also hoped that this will increase the enrollees of ASHIA from the over 145,000 enrollees they presently have.
