Anambra State Police Command is investigating circumstances surrounding intra-communal crisis in Ogwuikpele, Ogbaru Council Area, leading to destruction of lives and property

Anambra State Police Command says on Friday, last week, at about 11:19pm, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Council Area of Anambra State, Honourable Arinzechukwu Awogu, brought a report that
there was intra-communal crisis in Ogwuikpele Community over a levy from an oil exploring company in the Community.

A release issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed, said following the report, the Command quickly dispatched joint Police teams comprising PMF/RRS and other Conventional Units in collaboration with the local Community Vigilante group led by the Area Commander Oraifite, ACP Wilfred Afolabi, to the scene and met virtually half of the Community deserted.

He said the situation was brought under control and normalcy restored in the area.

Haruna also informed that Joint patrols are ongoing in the area to reassure fleeing residents to return to the Community as well as ensure lasting peace in the area.

The PPRO further intimated that investigation has commenced in earnest to ascertain number of lives lost, injuries sustained, damage to property, circumstances surrounding the incident, and also identify and bring perpetrators to book.

The State Police Command appealed to the fleeing residents to return to the Community since normalcy has been restored and warned restive factions to maintain peace and assist in the investigation rather than resort to violence.
