Anambra residents have again been advised to desist from blocking drainages to allow easy flow of flood.
The advice was given during the commencement of the third phase of desilting of
drainages across local government areas of the State, aimed at averting environmental disasters like flooding.
The exercise, was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, the Ministry of Environment as well as Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency.
The programme took off from Onitsha North through Onitsha South and down to Awka South Local Government Areas, to later cover other local Government Areas.

Preservation Agency, Honourable Chido Obidiegwu, speaking on the occasion, cautioned residents against dumping of refuse in drainages as well as blocking flood channels with illegal structures.
He warned that government would not take it lightly with anyone flouting the rules.
The Transition Committee Chairman, Onitsha North Council Area, Honourable Patrick Mba, and his Awka South counterpart, Mr Leo Nwuba, said they were embarking on sensitization campaigns as part of measures, to educate the people and discourage them from abusing the environment in view of its ugly consequences.
