Anambra State Unveils First Rigged Pavement Street Road In Amansea

On July 18, 2024, the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), under the leadership of Managing Director and CEO Hon. Ossy Onuko, inaugurated Anambra State’s first rigged pavement street road in Amansea. This notable event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Hon. Ifeanyi Okoma, represented by Director of Highways Ministry Engr. Nuel Okoye. The street was named in honor of Rev. Fr. Dr. Raphael Azubuike Onyekwere for his significant contributions to the community.

Speaking at the event, Ossy Onuko highlighted the importance of this innovative project. “This marks the first rigged pavement street road constructed by the state government, offering both cost efficiency and ease of maintenance,” he said. Onuko credited Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his dedication to high-quality road infrastructure and assured that similar projects would be expanded across the state.

The Contractor Ojukwu Vincent, MD of Lumen Christy Construction and Procurement Ltd., emphasized the durability and low maintenance of the pavement, stating, “This is a proven method with over 20 years of expected longevity.” He detailed the comprehensive construction process, particularly suited for the swampy area.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Raphael Azubuike Onyekwere expressed his gratitude to Governor Soludo for his exceptional work in various sectors, including road construction, security, agriculture, and youth empowerment. He also commended ACTDA’s Ossy Onuko for selecting Amansea for this pioneering project, hoping for more rigged pavement roads statewide.

Dr. Jude Akpua, Majority Leader of the House of Assembly and Chairman of the Committee on Lands, praised both Governor Soludo and Onuko for their outstanding work, expressing his desire to implement similar projects in his hometown.

Hon. John Mark Ikunne, Awka North House of Assembly member, thanked the Governor and Onuko for their innovative approach and contributions, expressing confidence in the road’s durability.

Prince Chinedu Okafor, TC Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, lauded the efforts of Governor Soludo and Onuko in achieving a livable and prosperous Anambra as envisioned by the current administration.

The inauguration of this rigged pavement street road signifies a major milestone in Anambra State’s infrastructure development, promising improved road quality and longevity for its residents.
