Anambra State traditional rulers have expressed interest to partner Police in ensuring Security of lives and property of citizens.
The traditional rulers stated this when the new State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tony Olofu, paid them courtesy visit at the Government House, Awka.
The Chairman of the Council, Obi Alfred Achebe, who spoke on behalf of other council members, assured the new Police Commissioner of the royal Father’s preparedness to help in repositioning the state to maintain its status as the safest state in the country.
He maintained that the Royal Fathers are also law abiding, noting that joining hands with police would usher in lasting peace and stability, law and order in various communities which which then reflect in the state, even as they applauded the efforts and services of community vigilantes.
Baring their minds also, the traditional ruler of Okpuno in Awka South Council Area, Igwe Sunday Okafor, Igwe Christopher Okpala of Akwaeze, Igwe Iweka of Obosi town, Igwe Pius Omachonu of Olumbanasaa, Igwe K. O Obiriiolemgbe of Amorka as well as the traditional ruler of Umueri in Anambra East Council Area, Igwe Ben Emeka, among others recounted the various security Challanges in their different communities and urged the Police Commissioner to help to address them.
The traditional rulers promised him all necessary support to nip crimes and criminality in the bud across the state.
The Royal Fathers requested for transfer of some police officers who have stayed for up to ten or 25 years in their various areas of assignments to ensure miscreants do not familiarize with them.
They further urged him to ensure that his officers treat traditional rulers with respect at various check points.
In a vote of thanks, the traditional ruler of Orsomalla in Ogbaru Local Government, Igwe Chukwuma Awaogu, appreciated the Police Commissioner for the visit and urged him to embrace professionalism as his watch word, as well as ensure his officers guard against acts that could debase the police force.
Responding, the new Police Commissioner who made his numbers available to the royal fathers, appealed for their unalloyed support, which he noted, would go a long way in bringing to a hault, crimes and criminality in the state.
He assured them that he would look into their various concerns and advice, bearing in mind that traditional rulers are Chief Security Ifficers of their communities.
