Traditional rulers in Anambra State have joined in the call on pregnant mothers to patronize Mother and Child Referral Centre at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, COOUTH , Awka, for their wellbeing and those of their children.
The traditional rulers gave the advice during the commissioning of Mother and Child Referral Centre, Amaku, Awka, by Governor Willie Obiano.
The Secretary-General, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Pius Omachonu, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Council, Obi Alfred Achebe, appreciated Governor Willie Obiano, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Joe Akabuike, and their partners for equipping the centre with State-of-the-art theater, laboratory, pharmacy and other facilities needed for pregnancy care, delivery and care of the new born.
He advised mothers to make good use of the opportunity to put a stop to cases of women dying due to complications during pregnancies, child birth or postpartum periods.
The traditional rulers of Uke in Idemili North, Igwe Charles Agbala, that of Ezinifite, igwe Bob Orji, igwe Joseph Ajodo of Ukwalla, Igwe Clifford Okeke of Nawfija and his Nanka counterpart, Igwe Goodwin Ezeilo, hinted that provision of the referral centre will go a long way to address the problems of maternal mortality and morbidity in the state.
The traditional rulers stressed the need for pregnant mothers to ensure they visit the referral centre for professional care.
