Traditional religionists in Anambra State have staged a protest and petitioned Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his recent pronouncement aimed at checkmating practitioners of African Traditional Religion (ATR).

The protesters expressed deep concerns that the governor’s statement targets ATR practitioners unfairly, violating their constitutional rights and Nigeria’s secular nature.

The petition, signed by Agbogidi Okafor Ezeani Chikwe of Onuigbo Onyenachiya Center For African Spirituality , highlighted that Nigeria is a secular state, as explicitly declared by the Constitution.

The protesters emphasized the importance of freedom of religion, guaranteed by Section 38(1) of the Constitution.

The protesters accused the governor of selective regulation of religious practices, suggesting an intention to interfere with ATR practitioners while ignoring other religious groups.
