The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, has commissioned an ultra-modern ICT and Tailoring Skills Acquisition Centre as well as four utility ambulance vehicles, in furtherance of his administration’s efforts to empower youths and strengthen healthcare delivery across the local government area.
The newly completed Skills Acquisition Centre, located in Umukabia Village, Neni, is equipped with modern technology and internet access in its ICT department, providing trainees with the opportunity to acquire digital skills relevant to today’s economy.
The tailoring section is equally fitted with modern sewing machines and equipment for fashion designing, embroidery and other related creative skills.
The facility is expected to provide young people with practical vocational and digital training that can promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship and employment.
The initiative is also designed to create opportunities for beneficiaries to develop skills that can be transformed into sustainable means of livelihood.
The commissioning ceremony, held in Umukabia Village, Neni, attracted the President-General of the community, Chief (Sir) Christian Ikebudu, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders, who witnessed the formal opening of the facility. The presence of the stakeholders underscored the importance attached to the project and its expected impact on the youths and residents of the community.

Also commissioned were four utility ambulances for the Anaocha Health Authority to support emergency medical transportation within the local government area.
The vehicles comprise one commuter bus and three shuttle tricycles, all equipped with modern medical equipment and oxygen to support the transportation of patients requiring urgent medical attention to appropriate health facilities.
The ambulance initiative is expected to improve emergency response and provide assistance to patients who may require immediate transportation from their communities to health facilities.
The vehicles will serve as additional support to the existing healthcare infrastructure in Anaocha, particularly during medical emergencies.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Ibekwe commended the councillors, supervisors, heads of departments and staff of the local government administration for standing by him and supporting his administration throughout its tenure. He said the achievements recorded were the collective efforts of the people and dedicated the projects and awards received by his administration to Ndi Anaocha.
Ibekwe also acknowledged the contribution of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, noting that some of the initiatives implemented by his administration were made possible through the policies and programmes of the state government. He expressed appreciation to the governor for providing the foundation upon which such development efforts could be pursued at the local government level.
In recognition of his contributions to healthcare development and other sectors, Ibekwe received an Excellent Award from the Anaocha Health Authority, which recognised him as the “Best Mayor of Anaocha since the creation of the local government area”.
The commissioning of the skills acquisition centre and medical ambulances further highlights the administration’s focus on human capital development, youth empowerment and improved access to emergency healthcare services.
