The Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Barrister Kachi Aghasili, has felicitated with constituents and Nigerians at large on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration.
In her independence day message issued in Awka on Thursday 1st October 2026, Aghasili described independence as a reminder of the sacrifices, resilience and unity of Nigeria’s founding fathers who fought for freedom, justice and self-determination.
She congratulated the people of Awka North and Awka South for their continued commitment to peace, progress and community development despite the economic challenges facing the nation.
“On behalf of myself, my family and Labour Party, I felicitate with the good people of Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency on this historic day of our nation’s independence. Today reminds us that our freedom was not freely given, but earned through the courage and blood of our forefathers,” she stated.
The legal practitioner and Philanthropist noted that 66 years after independence, Nigeria is still struggling to achieve the democratic ideals for which the nationalists fought.
According to her, those ideals: rule of law, free and fair elections, freedom of speech, equality, and protection of lives and property, must be pursued and preserved at all cost.
“The democratic ideals our forefathers fought for; liberty, justice, unity and equity, must be preserved at all cost. We cannot allow corruption, bad governance and disunity to erode the foundation they laid. Independence will have no meaning if the people are not free from poverty, injustice and insecurity,” Aghasili said.
She urged Nigerians, particularly youths and women in Awka North and South, not to lose hope in the country, adding that with competent and people-oriented leadership, Nigeria can still fulfill its great potential.
Aghasili further called for qualitative leadership among leaders and unity among the various communities in the constituency, noting that those are one of the way re-energize the rural communities.
She prayed for peace, prosperity and progress for the constituency and for Nigeria as a whole, while calling on leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare and security of the people.
“Nigeria will rise again. But it will require all of us to the defend our democracy and hold our leaders accountable. The labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain,” she added.
