Report has it that two female suicide bombers have been arrested in Borno State in connection with a series of deadly explosions in Gwoza. Local government officials confirmed to newsmen that the bombers were part of a group of 30 women sent to the area to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
One of the suicide bombers, who came from the Pulka Axis, detonated her IED during military interrogation at a checkpoint, killing herself, a soldier, and a civilian JTF member. Another bomber detonated an IED at a wedding in Gwoza town, killing multiple people, including children and pregnant women.
Barkindo Saidu, Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), reported witnessing the first blast.
In response to the attacks, the military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza LGA. Authorities are investigating reports of additional suspected suicide bombers in the area.
Meanwhile, the arrest of two female bombers raises hopes for further insights into the operations of extremist groups in the region.
