Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) have thanked the north for the food blockage to the southern part of Nigeria, saying the move will help actualise the dream of the Union.

In a press release signed by the National President, Chief Emeka Diwe, and the
National Secretary, Honourable Gideon Adikwuru, the union revealed that ASETU has long created alternatives for ndigbo.

They explained that Aku Ruo Ulo Investment Initiative which ASETU launched in 2020 will completely resolve the agricultural problems of South East if implemented.

The group said that it noted with great delight the statements by some Northern groups in which they threatened to end the supply of food items to the South, and that MACBAN and other foodstuffs and cattle dealers’ associations in the North have begun to grapple with enforcing the threats, saying these would help Ndigbo attain total self-sufficiency in food production.

The group further explained that to attain food security and sufficiency in protein production, it has since flagged off pilot piggery projects in the five States of the South East, and with species which mature within a short period as well as embark on mechanized crop production, cattle ranching and poultry.

According to ASETU, all the Presidents-General of Town Unions in the communities have been mandated to coordinate those efforts in line with the framework which the union has since released.

The target is to encourage the steady and seamless repatriation of Igbo wealth back home, thereby unleashing the potentials in all the sectors of the local economy and facilitate job and wealth creation for our people through the various value chains.

The group asserted that the blockade on food supplies to Igboland by the North cannot cow, or shake them, as they prepared for it, and that it has aided the materialization of their initiative and fast-tracked their agenda which is to harvest home their wealth and make their land an oasis of prosperity among the Black Race.
