The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over the Federal Government’s failure to honour the 2009 agreement.
ASUU’s Bauchi Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Timothy Namo, made this known during a news conference in Jos on Friday.
Namo revealed that after ASUU’s National Executive Council meeting in August, a 21-day ultimatum was issued, followed by a 14-day extension starting from September 23.
He emphasized that the government has not addressed the union’s concerns, and warned that ASUU may shut down public universities if no action is taken.
Key issues include the non-conclusion of the 2009 agreement renegotiation, unpaid salaries, poor funding for university revitalisation, and failure to implement the Earned Academic Allowances. Namo urged Nigerians to hold the government accountable if the strike proceeds.
