When priests die the Church mourns.
That was the mood at the Awka Catholic Diocese as two of its illustrious priests Reverend Monsignor Bernard Nwakonobi and the Cathedral Administrator of St.Patrick’s cathedral Awka and episcopal vicar of the Awka region Reverend father Matthew Attansey were buried.
The burial mass which was held at the St.Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, was presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor.
In attendance was the Auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Dr. Dennis Isizor, the Vicar General of the Awka Catholic Diocese, Reverend Father Chudi Akaenyi, and his Ekwulobia counterpart, Reverend Father Anthony Chiegboka.
Other priests from far and near, the Religious and people from all walks of life also came to pay their last respect to the Priests.
Testimonies and accolades flowed freely to testify the worthy ambassadors of Jesus Christ.
For the people of Awba Ofemili in Awka North LGA where Monsignor Nwakonobi hailed from and Isuaniocha in Awka North LGA where Father Matthew Attansey hailed from,the duo acquitted themselves creditably as priests of God.
In a tribute, the Transition Committee Chairman for Awka North, Mr. Ferdinand Onwuje, eulogized the two priests as worthy sons of Awka north LGA.
Mr Onwuje commiserated with the immediate families of the deceased priests and prayed for the repose of their souls.
In another tribute, an indigene of Awba Ofemili, Sir Solomon Ozuah, also consoled the families of the two priests and prayed for the happy repose of their souls.
Sir Solomon used the forum to request the incoming Professor Chukwuma Soludo administration to address the major challenge facing the community which is bad roads.
Other sympathizers who commiserated with the Awka Catholic Diocese and the people of Awka North over the death of their priests include some stakeholders in the council area, Chief Shedrach Anakwue and High Chief Chukwukadibia Onwelu kwue.
