Borno State Police Command Looses 11 Personnel To Boko Haram
Borno State Police Command says it has lost a total number of 76 personnel during service in 2022.
The State Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdu Umar, who disclosed while briefing the Press in Maiduguri, on their activities for the year 2022, said that 11 out of the 76, lost their lives while engaging terrorists in the war theatre.
The CP revealed that another 7 police personnel died through car crashes, while the remaining 58 lost their lives due to various illnesses while on duty.
The CP noted that none of his personnel were abducted by ISWAP insurgents, as none has been declared unaccounted for by management or declared missing in any way during the period under review.
CP Umar posited that more than these statistics became widows during the period under review, adding that the state government has supported the command in empowering about 30 widows for a start pending the revolving of the funds for their benefits.
The Police Commissioner further intimated that Governor Zulum has agreed to support the widows with N25 m for the widows and widowers of the service from last year onwards.
On sexual violations, Abdu Umar stated that a whopping number of 100 rape cases were reported during the period under review, while some are being processed for prosecution by the Director of Public Prosecution.
