Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof Idris Bugaje, has emphasized the need for Nigeria to recognize the opportunities inherent in indigenous production and fabrication of laboratory equipment and tools.
He stated that this would not only conserve foreign exchange and reduce brain drain but also enhance the availability of resources in Polytechnics.
Bugaje made these remarks during a workshop on engineering laboratory development for polytechnics organized by LiviaSoft in Abuja.
He also expressed concern over the poor state of laboratories in the country’s polytechnics, which negatively impact graduates’ performance and technical development.
Represented by the Chief Admin Officer (Liaison), Bello Abdulhakeem, the NBTE boss stressed the importance of investing in Education to secure the future.
He advocated for the need to equip schools with necessary laboratory tools and resources to empower the youth as future leaders.
In line with this, Chief Executive Officer of LiviaSoft Technologies, Dr. Bobga Danjuma, called for a review of the polytechnic curriculum to better prepare graduates for the labor market.
The workshop aimed to link polytechnic students with industries, and participants were selected from various regions.
Amish Lad, the regional sales manager for Anritsu, highlighted the significance of enabling and funding the education sector to tackle brain drain in Nigeria. He also stressed the importance of equipping tertiary institutions with the correct solutions in communication fields, such as spectrum analyzers, to train engineers effectively.
