Dr Onyema Ogbuagbu ,a Nigerian Doctor, is at the center of the Pfizer led research , development and trials that have led to a breakthrough for Covid-19 vaccines.
Pfizer had recently announced that it’s Covid-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective. Their recent announcement has been seen as a game changer in the quest for a Covid 19 vaccine.
According to a media interview, Ogbuagbu said that he had been involved in the trials of the vaccines by Pfizer. Ogbuagbu , who is an associate professor of Medicine and Infectious disease specialist at Yale School of Medicine expressing his excitement, said that having a very effective vaccine would help in achieving herd immunity.
Ogbuagbu said that having the vaccine and being protected against the virus would go a long way in containing its spread.
Ogbuagbu is a 2003 graduate of medicine form the University of Calabar and currently is in the clinician educator track and Director of the HIV Clinical Trials programme of the Yale AIDS Programme, Section of Infectious Diseases of the Yale School of Medicine .
According to his profile on the Yale School of Medicine website, he was the Yale principal investigator on mtiolr investigational therapeutic and preventative clinical trials for Covid-19 , including remdesivir , which is FDA approved, the combination therapy as well as the Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine trail.
Ogbuagbu ,the son of Prof Chibuzo Ogbuagbu who was a former VC of ABSU and Abia SSG, returned to Nigeria with his parents where he studied Medicine before going to Yale.
