The Anambra State Chairman of Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme has commended citizenry, residents, political parties and gladiators for their peaceful, civil and harmonious conduct during and after Saturday governorship election.
According to him, all stakeholders last Saturday demonstrated indeed that the state is truly the light of the nation by proving wrong the prophets of doom’s assertion that the election will be violent and disastrous.
In a press release to newsmen in Onitsha, Ezekwueme commended INEC, Security Personnel, Civil Society Organisations, International-Society, stakeholders and those who contributed immensely towards the peaceful and successful conduct of the November 6th governorship election.
He then condemned with great disdain failures of the Bi-Modal Voters Accreditation System otherwise known as BVAS, the lateness of electoral officials and materials, inadequate or absence of security personnel in some polling units and voting centres, unprecedented and outrageous vote-buying, systematic disenfranchisement of voters, inducements and intimidations which According to him has become a great threat to the country’s democratic spirit and principles.
Further stating that the Majority of the citizenry failed, refused and neglected to exercise their civic duty to vote in an election that holds their future and that of their children, he noted that in the history of the state, this is first-time voters apathy reached its apogee as less than ten per cent of estimated 2.5 million registered voters cast their votes.
Ezekwueme also stated that as the election continues in some areas, CLO will eagerly look forward to an honest conclusion of the exercise and a result that will be acceptable to both the winner and losers stemming from its credibility.
