Community in Anambra Protest Over Missing Youths.

Indigenes of Uruebo village in Nkwelle Ezunaka Community of Oyi local Government Area have cried , saying that over 60 of their youths have been missing for months after crisis resulting from ownership of a landed property in the village.

An 89 year old community leader, Chief Abel Okafor, who came out to protest at the village square said that three of his sons are among those missing.

While addressing joutnalists, he said that besides over 60 missing young men from the village, 11 others have been languishing in prison for about six months. The Young men, were reportedly arrested by security agents on the order of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Emmanuel Obimma, who is popularly known as Ebube Muonso. He said that since then, youths of the community have all fled to unknown destinations.

Another community leader, Chief Augustine Okadigbo, said that trouble started when The elder brother to Emmanuel Obimma refused to handover as leader of the village after being in power for over six years. According to Chief Okadigbo, Obimma has been using his influence to sell off choice landed properties owned communally.

According to the report, when Rev Obimma was contacted , he said that the elders will join in the court charges for false information. He said he had wanted to release the suspects based on people’s plea but they still are not remorseful, while also adding that the matter will be settled in court.
