The Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt over a Facebook post she made on April 27. Justice Binta Nyako delivered the ruling on Friday in a case where Akpoti-Uduaghan challenged her suspension from the Senate. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, filed a contempt application, arguing that her satirical social media post violated a court order barring all parties from commenting on the matter publicly. While Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team claimed the post addressed a separate issue involving sexual harassment, the court ruled otherwise. Justice Nyako ordered her to apologize in two national newspapers and on Facebook within seven days, and imposed a ₦5 million fine.
