In a dazzling display of dominance, De Wilson FC Awka clinched the title as the pioneer champions of the Awka South Football League Season 2. On Friday, July 26, 2024, De Wilson FC triumphed over Fortune FC Awka with a commanding 5-0 victory, securing their place at the pinnacle of local football.
The season concluded with five riveting matches, showcasing the prowess of local teams. Amawbia United bested ABU Foundation FC 2-0, Umuawulu United FC defeated 3 Block FC 3-1, Dynamite FC Nibo outclassed New Saint FC 4-0, and Peace FC Awka succumbed to Dynamic FC 5-2.
The final match’s festivities began with a ceremonial kickoff performed by Hon. Chinedu Okafor, Chairman of Awka South Local Government, underscoring the event’s significance and community support.
Speaking to sportswriters, Hon. Ofili Christian Chekwube, Chairman of the Awka South Local Football Council, reflected on his vision for the youth. “Before I ascended to the chairmanship position, I had a vision to develop Awka South youths through sports. Today, I see my vision becoming a reality, driving me to excel further,” he stated.
Hon. Chinedu Okafor, the Awka South Local Government Chairman, expressed his delight at the league’s success. He pledged continued support for the upcoming third season and praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in making Anambra State livable and prosperous.
Mr. Nwachukwu Wilson Somtochukwu, Proprietor and Chairman of De Wilson FC, expressed gratitude to God, his players, and coaches. “This league is essential for grassroots football development and talent hunting.
