The bill against open grazing, indiscriminate breeding, rearing and marketing of livestock has been passed by the Delta State House of Assembly.
The bill was passed on Tuesday, following the motion for the third reading moved by the majority leader of the house, Ferguson Onwo.
Expressing joy over the development, Speaker of the assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori, said that the house has fulfilled the commitment the state reached at the Southern governor’s meeting which first held in Asaba over issues concerning open grazing and other matters.
He said that as a result of the passage of the bill, farmers can carry out their businesses without fear of anyone grazing on their farms. He also said this will boost food production in the state and in the right step as women can now go to their farmlands without fear of molestation.
He thanked the members of the house for their resolute commitment in the passage of the people oriented bill.
Delta joins other states like Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Enugu, Bayelsa, Lagos, Rivers, Ondo and Akwa Ibom that have signed the bill into law.
