Don’t Display Goods/Wares On Roads, Sidewalks – Anambra Govt Warns
Anambra State Government has warned traders not to display their goods and Wares on roads and sidewalks.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, and made available to the Press on Tuesday, 5th March, 2024.
The statement said that Anambra State Government has noticed with dismay, the unwarranted display of goods and wares on the newly constructed roads and sidewalks, obstructing free flow of vehicular movement and pedestrians.
The Commissioner maintained that The incidents defeat the purpose for which these newly constructed roads and sidewalks were made.
According to him, this is particularly noticeable along Obodoukwu Road, Niger Street, Port Harcourt Road and a number of other locations where brand new roads have been constructed by the state government.
The statement, therefore, directed Traders to display their goods/wares 1.2 meters away from the road or sidewalks, adding that Roads are meant for motor vehicles, while sidewalks are meant for pedestrians.
He warned traders to desist from displaying, selling or hawking items on such unauthorized places as anybody caught will be arrested and prosecuted.
The statement read:
“Anambra State Government has noticed with dismay the unwarranted display of goods and wares on the newly constructed roads and sidewalks, obstructing free flow of vehicular movement and pedestrians.
“These incidents defeat the purpose for which these newly constructed roads and sidewalks were made.
“Thus is particularly noticeable along Obodoukwu Road, Niger Street, Port Harcourt Road and a number of other locations where brand new roads have been constructed by the state government.
“Traders are hereby directed to display their goods/wares 1.2 meters away from the road or sidewalks. Roads are meant for motor vehicles while sidewalks are meant for pedestrians.
“By this notice, traders are therefore warned to desist from displaying or selling or hawking items on this unauthorized places as anybody caught will be arrested and prosecuted”, the statement concluded.
