A Deputy Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) has advised Nigerians to stop flaunting wealth in public.
Paul Oduh, the Deputy Director, Security Enforcement of the secret Service in Kwara Command, gave the warning while presenting a paper titled “Security tips for health practitioners in Kwara”, at a symposium organized by the state branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in the state on Friday.
According to Oduh, rash display of affluence attracts the attention of criminal elements like robbers, kidnappers and bandits.
Advising people to adopt moderate lifestyles, so as not to fall prey to criminal elements, he added that security should be the concern of all people and they should be enlightened on security issues in order to protect and secure lives and property.
He further advised people to secure their homes and properties with physical security measures like burglary proofs, protective security gadgets, security lights and perimeter fencing, among others, especially at this time of constant security threats.
Admitting that although security could never be one hundred percent, he stressed that people should be informed and take security measures to reduce risk of attacks.
The advice by the DSS deputy director trails the lavish display and spraying of money that happened last week at the burial ceremony of the mother of businessman, Obi Iyiegbu popularly called Obi Cubana in Oba, Anambra State.
