Ebonyi Govt Warns Doctors Against Turning Hospital Ambulances to Private Vehicles
Ebonyi State Government has warned resident doctors in the State to henceforth, desist from using ambulances presented to hospitals as private vehicles.
Governor Francis Nwifuru gave the warning while addressing the people of the State to mark this year’s Independence Day Anniversary celebration held at the Governor’s Office Pavilion, New Government House, Abakaliki.
The warning following continued complaints and petitions by different host communities of General Hospitals in the State that resident doctors in the Stat have personalized the 20 ambulances newly procured by the state government.
The Governor expressed concern over such attitude, insisting that the ambulances are meant to convey patients and must be within the hospital environment.
He told the different communities to ensure that they take charge and control of the ambulances, adding that the vehicles belong to the community and not to the resident doctors.
He further disclosed that the State Government has successfully procured 4 Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI, Machines, medical consumables and other medical equipment for use in the 13 General Hospitals.
“We have also procured laboratory Chemicals and Reagents as well as oxygen cylinders for Health Centres in the State. We have recruited 195 medical personnel to work in all our general hospitals in the State.
Governor Nwifuru revealed that his administration has increased the allowances of resident doctors by N150,000.00 each, adding that 42 SUVs have also been procured and distributed to the medical doctors.
“We have injected over 100 Million Naira for our routine immunization across the State. With this measure, the State Ministry of Health has successfully completed 2023 immunization against Out Break Response (OBR) for children.
“I have also directed that medical personnel attached to our Health facilities should be resident at their various places of work. The ministry in the day ahead will step up awareness campaign to combat cancer, Sickle cell and disease outbreaks.
