The National Parks authority in Southeastern Zimbabwe have reported that a woman and her three month old baby were trampled to death by an elephant on Tuesday.
According to the report, the 23 year old woman from rural Chipinge district had taken her baby to visit relatives in a neighbouring community on New Year’s Day and was returning home when they encountered a herd of elephants.
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesman Tinashe Farawo said an elephant suddenly attacked and killed the woman and her baby on the spot.
The Spokesman also said that 40 people were killed between January and October in 2021.
