EFCC Command, Enugu Secures Conviction of Seven Yahoo Boys over Cybercrime

  • Kaduna Command Arrests Suspects with 1,144 ATM Cards

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of three students over alleged forgery, impersonation and obtaining money from unsuspecting foreign nationals under false pretences.

The suspects were identified as Nonso Adudu, Christopher Anichebe and Onyedika Austin Leonard, were arraigned before Justice I.M. Buba of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu

They were prosecuted on separate one count charge.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

In his ruling, Justice Buba convicted and sentenced them to two years imprisonment with an option of One Million Naira fine each.

They are also to forfeit their mobile phones to the Federal Government.

Buba also convicted and sentenced four internet fraudsters to 2 years imprisonment with an option of One million Naira fine.

The convicts are Abraham Odinaka Afam, Nwobodo Anthony, Samson Ugwuoke and Enoch Ebuka Ezra.

They were convicted having pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them by the EFCC.

The Court also ordered the forfeiture of their mobile phones to the Federal Government.

Meanwhile the Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested three suspects at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport while attempting to smuggle 1,144 Automated Teller Machine cards out of the country.

The suspects: Abdullahi Usman, Musa Abubakar and Abdulwahid Auwalu, were arrested between November 24 and December 1, 2021.

Upon their arrest, it was discovered that Abubakar who was on his way to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, had concealed 714 ATM cards while Usman who was heading to Saudi Arabia had 298 ATM cards in his possession.

A statement on Friday by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, titled, ‘EFCC arrests three suspects with 1,144 ATM cards at Kano airport,’ stated, Abdulwahid, on the other hand, was arrested with 132 ATM cards while trying to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Istanbul, Turkey.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
