…Urges political parties to give the Police prior notice of their meetings

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Lawal, on Wednesday, 19/01/2022, visited the scene of the alleged incident of invasion, shooting, injury, murder and abduction, by yet-to-be-identified armed hoodlums, at Obeagu Ward 3 Party Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Obeagu-Awkunanaw community of Enugu South LGA, while the Party’s members were having a political meeting on Tuesday, 18/01/2022 at about 7 pm.

The report said APC former council chairman, and one other person were where killed during the incident, while another party stalwart was kidnapped.
The police Commissioner also visited the hospital where another victim who was seriously injured is receiving treatment.
CP Lawal ordered the immediate launch of discreet investigation and rescue of one Mike Ogbonna (Okwadike), who was allegedly abducted to an unknown destination during the invasion, as well manhunt of the assailants.
Reports have it that the invaders shot sporadically and murdered two (2) male members of the Party, one Kelvin Nnaemeka Ezeoha (former Enugu South LGA APC Chairman) and Chidera Ogaba, as well as seriously injured one other.”
The victims were immediately moved to a nearby hospital, where Kelvin Nnaemeka Ezeoha and Chidera Ogaba, were both confirmed dead by medical doctors and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy, while the injured victim is responding to treatment.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the CP said “No stone would be left unturned in fishing out perpetrators of the heinous crime”, while urging “political parties in the State and their members, to ensure they timely notify the Command of their meetings or other political activities, to enable it plan and ensure adequate security in order to avert untoward incidents of this nature.”
