Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) , Mr Ikeje Asogwa has said that attention will be given to 130 schools, out of the 700 schools that need attention as priority will be given based on the level of dilapidated structures.
He made this known when members of the State House of Assembly Commitee on Education, Science and Technology visited him on Tuesday in his office.
Explaining that the board had earlier received reports on the dilapidated structures that needs urgent attention while also revealing that the state government in Feburary, approved 1.6 billion naira as a counterpart fund to renovate the schools, he also notified them that the board appointed new education secretaries in some local government areas and that the board was regular in paying teachers ‘ salaries and promotion allowances.
The House Committee Chairman on Education, James Akadu , in his speech, said that the visit was part of the commitee’s oversight function.
He appreciated the government for reconstructing and renovating 1,250 schools in the state from 2015 to date and also the education board for proper supervision and monitoring of schools.
