The Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency is set to vaccinate over 942,000 children in the upcoming 2024 Integrated Measles Campaign. The State Health Educator, Dr. Chinyere Chime, revealed this during a zonal meeting organized by UNICEF and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu. The campaign, targeting children aged 9 to 59 months, will run from October 12 to 18.
Dr. Chime stated that the agency has received 853,000 vaccine doses and aims to exceed its target through media awareness, town hall meetings, and advocacy visits. In 2022, the agency successfully vaccinated over 891,000 children, surpassing its previous target.
UNICEF’s Social and Behaviour Change Specialist, Dr. Hilary Ozoh, emphasized the dangers of measles, which can cause blindness and death.
He called for intensified awareness, especially in rural areas, to ensure a successful campaign across Enugu, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, and Kogi States.
